Shabbir Kumar Vinyl Records

Shabbir Kumar was born Shaikh Shabbir Ahmed in Baroda, Gujarat, in 1954, and first became known on stage there for singing in the style of Mohammed Rafi. The composer Usha Khanna gave him a few lines in Tajurba (1981) and later his first solo, in Sardar. His break came when Manmohan Desai wanted a Rafi-like voice for Coolie (1983): Usha Khanna recommended him, the composer Laxmikant invited him to Bombay to audition, and the songs, filmed on Amitabh Bachchan, launched his career. Through the 1980s he recorded for Laxmikant-Pyarelal, R.D. Burman, Bappi Lahiri and Anu Malik.
