Buy Vinyl Records Online in India
Buying vinyl records in India used to mean knowing someone — a dealer in Chor Bazaar, a stall at a Sunday market, a collector willing to part with a duplicate. It is easier now, but the basic problem has not changed: most Indian pressings were made in modest numbers, were played hard, and were stored through decades of monsoon humidity. Finding a good copy still takes patience. This page explains what we hold, how we grade it, and what it costs to have a record delivered anywhere in India.
What we stock
Over ten thousand original records — not reissues bought in bulk, but individual copies acquired from collections across India and listed one at a time. The catalogue breaks down roughly like this:
- Hindi film soundtracks — around 1,750 titles, from 1950s EPs through the 1980s. Browse by decade: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s.
- South Indian film music — roughly 1,385 Tamil, 363 Kannada and 190 Telugu records. Tamil is our second-largest section after English.
- English and international — around 4,760 records, the largest single group. Rock, pop, disco, jazz and Western classical, mostly Indian pressings on EMI, Polydor and HMV. See English LPs.
- Indian classical — sitar, sarod, santoor, bansuri, shehnai and vocal recitals. See classical LPs.
- Ghazal, devotional and regional — ghazal LPs, religious records, Gujarati, Pakistani and Urdu pressings.
By format that is about 9,500 twelve-inch LPs and 567 45 rpm seven-inch EPs — the format many Indian soundtracks were first sold in, and sometimes the only one a title ever appeared in.
How we grade
Vinyl and sleeve are graded separately, and faults are photographed rather than described away. Around 2,750 records currently carry a Near Mint vinyl grade and about 270 are still sealed; the rest span the honest middle, and the listing says which. We would rather lose a sale than have a record arrive worse than you expected. If a listing is ambiguous, write to us and we will look at the actual copy before you commit.
Shipping within India, and worldwide
We ship from Bengaluru in rigid record mailers — corner protection matters more than speed, particularly in the monsoon. Metro deliveries to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata typically land within a few days, with longer transit to the North East and smaller towns. We also ship worldwide; overseas orders are packed to the same standard. Shipping cost and current timelines are shown at checkout, and our returns policy covers records that arrive misdescribed or damaged.
What records cost
There is no single answer, but the shape is consistent: common film LPs in played condition start low, clean copies of well-known soundtracks sit in the middle, and first pressings of landmark titles with intact sleeves reach into the thousands of rupees. Condition drives price more than age does — a crisp 1980s LP will usually outprice a battered 1950s one. Our collector's guide to gramophone records goes into how pressings are identified and valued.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy original vinyl records in India?
Online, from us — we are an online record store, not a walk-in shop, and we ship across India and worldwide. Physical options exist in the larger cities: a handful of specialist shops in Mumbai and Delhi, occasional record fairs, and the secondhand markets. For Indian film music specifically, the online catalogue is usually where the depth is, simply because no single shop can hold ten thousand titles.
Are these original pressings or reissues?
The overwhelming majority are original Indian pressings from their period, bought from private collections. Where something is a reissue or a later pressing, the listing says so plainly. We do not stock modern repress bundles.
Do you deliver across India?
Yes — every state, including the North East and smaller towns, packed in rigid mailers. Metro cities are fastest. International orders ship from the same warehouse.
What is the cheapest way to buy vinyl records in India?
Buy on condition rather than on price. A cheap record with heavy groove wear is money spent on something you will not play twice, while a well-graded common title at a fair price gives years of listening. Our lower price bands are mostly common film LPs in honest played condition, and they are listed as exactly that.
Do you buy records as well as sell them?
Yes, we are always buying. Send us a list or photographs of the collection and we will come back with an honest assessment.
