Every record in this shop needs something to play it on. These are the turntables we stock: Pro-Ject decks built in Europe, supplied set up and ready to play, so a new listener can go from unboxing to first side without an afternoon of alignment.

Why Pro-Ject

Pro-Ject has been building belt-drive turntables in Europe since 1991 and is the deck most often recommended to people buying their first serious record player. The models here arrive with the cartridge pre-fitted and pre-adjusted at the factory — the single most fiddly part of turntable setup — so you are not asked to set tracking force and alignment yourself before you can hear anything.

Choosing between them

• Pro-Ject Primary E — the entry point, with an Ortofon cartridge fitted. The simplest way into proper vinyl playback.
• Pro-Ject E1 — an 8.6" aluminium tonearm and a pre-fitted Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge. 
• Pro-Ject E1.2 — a 730g die-cast aluminium platter and a factory-set Pick it MM E cartridge. Named EISA Best Value Turntable 2025–2026.

What you need alongside it

A turntable needs amplification and speakers unless you buy a model with a built-in phono stage and powered speakers. If your amplifier has no dedicated phono input you will need either a turntable with a built-in preamp or a separate phono stage — ask us and we will tell you plainly which of these decks suits the equipment you already own.

Buying from us

Turntables are shipped from Bengaluru, double-boxed, with the platter and counterweight packed separately as the manufacturer intends. We are a record shop first, so if you want advice on matching a deck to the kind of records you collect — heavy 1970s Indian pressings behave differently to modern reissues — write to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which turntable should I buy as a beginner?

The Primary E is the usual starting point, and the E1 is the natural step up if you want a better tonearm and the option of a built-in preamp. All the decks here come with the cartridge already fitted and adjusted, which is what makes them suitable for a first turntable.

Do I need a separate amplifier and speakers?

Usually yes. A turntable outputs a very low-level signal that needs a phono stage and then amplification. Some versions include a built-in phono preamp, which lets you connect to a normal line input or powered speakers. Tell us what you already own and we will confirm what else is required.

Will these play my old Indian records?

Yes — these are standard belt-drive decks playing 33⅓ and 45 rpm, which covers the LPs and EPs we sell. True 78 rpm shellac needs a deck with a 78 speed and a wider stylus, which these are not.
