The spread here runs from classic soundtracks to late-eighties releases cut just before vinyl production wound down in India. Why South Indian film music matters on vinyl

Most of this catalogue was pressed by HMV and EMI India, with some titles on smaller Indian labels, and a large share of it has never been properly reissued — not on CD, and often not on streaming either. For many of these films, the original LP is still the best-sounding and sometimes the only physical way to hear the full soundtrack. The sleeves are a pleasure in their own right: hand-painted poster art, film stills and typography in four scripts that you simply do not get from a playlist.

Because South Indian pressings were made in smaller quantities than the big Hindi soundtracks, clean copies are genuinely harder to find. Regional titles also travelled less, so collectors outside India rarely come across them locally — which is exactly why this section of our store gets so much attention from serious soundtrack collectors.
