Sell Your Vinyl Records
We buy original vinyl records, and we have been buying steadily for years — that is where the ten thousand records in this catalogue came from. If you have a collection to sell, whether it is a shelf of forty film LPs or an entire room, this page explains what we look for, how we value it, and how the process works. We buy from anywhere in India.
What we buy
- Indian film soundtracks — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati and Bengali, on LP and 45 rpm EP. This is the core of what we do and where we pay best.
- Indian classical and semi-classical — sitar, sarod, santoor, bansuri, shehnai, vocal recitals, and early Carnatic pressings.
- Ghazal, devotional and folk — including Pakistani and Urdu pressings.
- English and international records pressed in India — rock, pop, disco, jazz and Western classical on EMI, Polydor, HMV and the other Indian licensees.
- Whole collections — we would rather take a collection entire than pick the best twenty records out of it and leave you with the rest.
What we are cautious about
Being straightforward about this saves everybody time. Shellac 78 rpm discs are heavy, fragile and slow to sell, so we buy them selectively. Records with heavy groove wear, water damage, warping or mould have little resale value whatever the title. Duplicate copies of very common soundtracks are worth less than people expect. And we do not buy modern reissue bundles — our customers come to us for original pressings.
How we value a collection
Value comes down to condition, the titles themselves, and whether the sleeves survived. Our guide to what old records are worth sets out the full picture, but the short version for a seller is this: a collection of ordinary film LPs in played condition is worth a modest amount, and a smaller collection of clean, sought-after titles with intact sleeves can be worth considerably more. We will tell you which you have, plainly, before any money is discussed.
We make an offer on the collection as a whole. If a collection is not something we can use, we will say so rather than make a low offer to see if it is accepted.
How to sell your records to us
- Send us a list or photographs. Email sales@bollywoodvinyl.in. A typed list of titles is ideal; clear photographs of the spines laid out are just as good. For anything you think may be special, photograph the label and the sleeve back.
- We come back with an assessment. Usually within a few days. If the collection is large or unusual we may ask for more detail, or to see a sample of the condition.
- We agree a price and arrange collection. For collections in and around Bengaluru we can often collect in person. Elsewhere in India we will arrange transport, and we will tell you how to pack records so they survive the journey.
- You are paid on receipt and inspection — by bank transfer, once we have confirmed the records match what was described.
Selling an inherited collection
A good part of what we buy comes from families clearing a house, often with no particular interest in records and no idea whether what they have matters. There is no obligation in asking, and we are happy to tell you that a collection is ordinary — most are. If there is something genuinely valuable in it, we will point that out too, including when you would do better selling it yourself. We would rather have a reputation worth something than one extra record.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I sell my old vinyl records in India?
To a specialist dealer, at a record fair, or privately to collectors. A specialist is usually the fastest route for a whole collection and the fairest for ordinary titles; selling privately can earn more on individual rare records but takes time and effort per disc. We buy across India and handle transport.
How much will I get for my records?
It depends entirely on the titles and their condition. Most Indian film LPs in played condition are modest in value; clean copies of sought-after soundtracks, early classical recitals and scarce regional pressings are worth substantially more. Send photographs and we will give you a real number rather than a range.
Do you buy small collections?
Yes, though for very small lots of common titles it may not be worth the transport. Write to us and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth either party's trouble.
Do you buy record players and gramophones?
Occasionally, and selectively. Mention any equipment when you write, with photographs and whether it is in working order.
Will you tell me what my records are worth without buying them?
Yes. We give informal valuations at no charge and with no obligation. Send photographs of the labels and sleeves to sales@bollywoodvinyl.in.
