Sameer, also known as Sameer Anjaan, was born Shitala Pandey and comes from Varanasi. The son of the lyricist Anjaan, he followed his father into Hindi film songwriting in the 1980s, broke through in 1990 with Dil and Aashiqui, and went on to write songs for films such as Saajan (1991), Deewana (1992), Raja Hindustani (1996) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).

25 records carry a Sameer lyric credit, and most come from before that breakthrough: Hindi film soundtrack LPs from the second half of the 1980s, with a few from the early 1990s. These Sameer vinyl records are original soundtracks on which he wrote some or all of the songs, often sharing the credits with Anjaan, S.H. Bihari or Indeevar. Laxmikant-Pyarelal recurs most as composer, followed by Anand-Milind and Anu Malik, and the voices are those of the period: Anuradha Paudwal, Mohammed Aziz, Shabbir Kumar, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Amit Kumar.

Look for Love 86, Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), Aakhri Adaalat (1988), Jawab Hum Denge, Mahasangram and Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri (1990). Most came out on T-Series, with others on Weston and EMI.
