Kavita Krishnamurthy Vinyl Records

Kavita Krishnamurthy was born Sharada Krishnamurthy in New Delhi in 1958. Her way into Hindi films came through Laxmikant-Pyarelal, who first gave her work as a dubbing singer, recording demo versions of songs intended for Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The partnership went on to produce hits such as "Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon" from Pyar Jhukta Nahin and "Hawa Hawai" from Mr. India (1987). In the 1990s her songs for R.D. Burman in 1942: A Love Story were widely acclaimed. She has recorded in many languages and is married to the violinist L. Subramaniam.

66 records here credit Kavita Krishnamurthy, almost all Hindi film soundtracks from the 1980s, with a few from the early 1990s. Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the large majority, with Anand Bakshi the most frequent lyricist, followed by Sameer and S.H. Bihari, and Bappi Lahiri scored a handful more. They are soundtracks on which she sings one or more songs, not solo albums, most often shared with Mohammed Aziz and Anuradha Paudwal, then Shabbir Kumar, Alka Yagnik and Suresh Wadkar.

Look for Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Karma, Meri Jung (1985), Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988) and Nigahen (1989). T-Series, the label of Super Cassettes Industries, issued the largest share, a sign of that company's rapid rise in the 1980s, with EMI and Venus pressings too.
