Noor Jehan Vinyl Records

Noor Jehan (1926–2000) was born Allah Wasai in Kasur, Punjab. Before Partition she was a star of Hindi cinema, acting and singing in Khandaan (1942), Zeenat (1945), Naushad’s Anmol Ghadi (1946), Mirza Sahiban and Jugnu (both 1947). That year she moved to Pakistan with her husband Shaukat Hussain Rizvi, where she acted in Urdu and Punjabi films, turned to playback singing and was known as Malika-e-Tarannum, the Queen of Melody.

The records in this collection

18 records carry a Noor Jehan credit. Most are Indian EMI, HMV and Odeon LPs of her 1940s film songs. Anmol Ghadi dominates, which is why Naushad, Surendra, Suraiya and Shamshad Begum recur in the credits, with Jugnu, Mirza Sahiban and the compilation Memorable Songs of Melody Queen Noor Jahan (1965) alongside. The rest, including the Urdu and Punjabi listings, are EPs on EMI Pakistan and Columbia labels.

Buying Noor Jehan vinyl from us

We grade vinyl and sleeve separately and photograph the actual copy, so you can judge label and wear yourself. Songs recorded in the 1940s can carry hiss from the original masters; our condition notes cover noise that comes from the vinyl itself. Orders ship worldwide from Bengaluru.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a 1940s film carry a later year?

Her 1940s songs reached LP only as later reissues, so a listing’s year may be the pressing’s, not the film’s.

Are these Noor Jehan vinyl records Indian or Pakistani pressings?

Both. The LPs of her Indian films are Indian issues, some EPs were pressed in Pakistan, and each listing’s label photograph shows which is which.
