Anup Jalota Vinyl Records
Anup Jalota was born in 1953 in Nainital, the son of the bhajan singer Purshottam Das Jalota, and studied at the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. He started out as a chorus singer at All India Radio and became best known for bhajans such as Aisi Lagi Lagan and Main Nahi Makhan Khayo, and for ghazals.
The records in this collection
24 records carry an Anup Jalota credit, all in Hindi and largely from the 1980s. Unlike a typical playback singer's shelf, these Anup Jalota vinyl records mix his own albums with film soundtracks. The albums, mostly on Music India and Polydor, include Bhajan Sandhya, Bhajan Yatra, Shree Ram Bhajan, the ghazal set Shohrat and several concert recordings, and on a number of them he is credited as composer too. On soundtracks such as Nastik and Asli Naqli he is one of the credited singers, beside voices like Asha Bhosle and Anuradha Paudwal.
