Usha Mangeshkar Vinyl Records

Usha Mangeshkar, born in 1935, is the youngest of the four Mangeshkar sisters, after Lata Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar and Asha Bhosle, and the elder sister of the composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar. She has recorded in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali and several other languages, and her Marathi film songs include those of Pinjara (1972). In Hindi cinema she came to wide notice with the devotional songs of C. Arjun's Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), among them "Main To Aarti Utaroon", and she is also known for "Mungda" from Inkaar (1977).

The records in this collection

76 records in our catalogue carry an Usha Mangeshkar credit. The shelf is almost entirely Hindi, running from the early 1960s to the late 1980s with the 1980s the largest group, plus a handful of Gujarati film records. They are soundtracks and compilations on which she sings one or more songs, not albums of her own, often shared with Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi or Mahendra Kapoor.

Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri and Raam Laxman are the most frequent composers, with Ravi, C. Arjun, Rajesh Roshan and Shankar-Jaikishan also present. Look for Jai Santoshi Maa, The Burning Train, Naseeb (1981), Khandan (1965) and Taqdeer (1967). EMI and The Gramophone Company of India issued most, including HMV and Odeon pressings, with some on Music India and Super Cassettes Industries.

Buying Usha Mangeshkar vinyl from us

Our Usha Mangeshkar vinyl records span nearly three decades of Indian pressings, so condition varies a good deal. We grade each by hand, vinyl and sleeve separately, and photograph the copy itself. Older HMV and EMI sleeves can show ring wear, faded spines, tape or split seams, and we point these out rather than leave you to find them. Every order ships from Bengaluru in rigid, record-safe packaging, to India and worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Usha Mangeshkar the main singer on these records?

On some, but often not. On many Hindi soundtracks she sings one song or joins a duet or group number. If you are after a particular song, ask us and we will check the track listing on that copy.

Does this collection include her Gujarati songs?

Yes. Alongside the Hindi soundtracks are Gujarati film records such as Garvo Garasiyo, Preet Khanda Ni Dhaar (1979) and Kunvari Satino Kesariyo Kanth, worth a look if you collect her work beyond Hindi cinema.
