Raam Laxman — the composing partnership that carried on under Vijay Patil after Surendra "Raam" Vartak's early death — scored some of the most commercially successful Hindi films of the 1980s and early 1990s. Their sound is unmistakable for the period: melody-forward, lightly orchestrated, built around Usha Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, and aimed squarely at the family audience that made Rajshri Productions a household name.

The records in this collection

Twenty-one original Hindi film soundtracks on which Raam Laxman is the credited music director — twenty LPs and one EP. The bulk are 1980s titles such as Hum Se Badhkar Kaun, Dard-E-Dil, Deewana Tere Naam Ka and Tere Mere Beech Mein, with a few reaching into the early 1990s. Most were pressed in India for EMI, and the singers you will hear most often across them are Usha Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. Six copies are graded Near Mint and one is still sealed.
