Hackney Diamonds is the Rolling Stones' first album of original material since A Bigger Bang in 2005, released by Polydor on 20 October 2023 and produced by Andrew Watt. This edition is pressed on transparent purple heavyweight vinyl, in a gatefold jacket. The hype sticker bills it as a store exclusive, a colour issued through selected record shops in several countries.
It is also the band's first album since Charlie Watts died in 2021, and it includes his last studio work, from 2019 sessions: he drums on Mess It Up and on Live By The Sword, where former bassist Bill Wyman recorded with the band for the first time in 30 years and Elton John is on piano. Paul McCartney plays bass on Bite My Head Off, and Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder join Sweet Sounds Of Heaven.
The record closes with Rolling Stone Blues, the Muddy Waters song that gave the band its name, which they had never released a version of before. The album reached number one in the UK and won Best Rock Album at the 67th Grammy Awards.
