The 40th anniversary edition of Powerslave, Iron Maiden's fifth studio album, from September 1984, pressed as the band's first zoetrope picture disc. The hype sticker lists the 2015 remastered audio, expanded artwork and "Powerslave at 40" notes from Steve Harris, and the release announcement said this was the first time the 2015 remaster had been issued on vinyl. The disc comes in a gatefold sleeve with a die-cut panel that shows the record, and a four page booklet is included.
The album was recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, mixed at Electric Lady Studios in New York and produced by Martin Birch. It was the first Iron Maiden album made by the same line-up as the one before it. The ancient Egypt theme comes from the title track and carries through Derek Riggs's cover and the World Slavery Tour that followed.
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner retells Coleridge's poem and quotes lines from it directly. At over 13 minutes it remained the band's longest song for more than 30 years. 2 Minutes To Midnight, inspired by the Doomsday Clock during the Cold War, and Aces High were the singles. Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) is an instrumental.
