Shankar-Jaikishan Vinyl Records
Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi and Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal announced themselves with Barsaat (1949) and dominated Hindi film music through the 1950s and 1960s, winning nine Filmfare Awards — more than any composer of their era. Their defining partnership was with Raj Kapoor, whose films Awara, Shree 420, Sangam and Mera Naam Joker they scored, and their songs travelled far beyond India: "Awara Hoon" became a phenomenon across the Soviet Union and China. Working with lyricists Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri, they set the template for the lush, orchestral Hindi film song until Jaikishan's early death in 1971.

Shankar-Jaikishan's peak coincided with the golden age of HMV's Indian pressing plants, and their soundtracks — the Raj Kapoor films above, plus Shammi Kapoor vehicles like Junglee and hits such as Sangam — are cornerstones of any Hindi film vinyl collection. Because the earliest scores predate the LP era in India, many titles exist both as later soundtrack LPs and as compilation pressings, which HMV reissued repeatedly. The duo also cut one of Indian vinyl's most internationally hunted non-film records, Raga Jazz Style (1968), a collision of Hindustani ragas and jazz that commands serious attention from crate-diggers worldwide.
