The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour 180g Vinyl LP

The stereo remastered Magical Mystery Tour on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl, prepared from the 2009 digital remasters which were themselves cut from the original analogue tapes. It still includes the 24 page full colour picture book that came with the 1967 release, which is most of the reason to own this one as a physical record.

It is really two records in one. Side one is the six song soundtrack to the film the band made for BBC television at the end of 1967. Side two is a singles collection, and an extraordinary one: Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, Hello Goodbye and All You Need Is Love, which is as strong a run of A sides as any band has managed in a single year.

I Am The Walrus closes side one, with its cello scrape, its radio broadcast of King Lear bled in live from the BBC Third Programme, and a lyric Lennon wrote partly to frustrate the schoolteachers who had started setting Beatles songs for analysis.
