Iron Maiden's eighth studio album, from October 1990, in the 2017 Parlophone reissue on 180 gram black vinyl with the 2015 remastered audio. The back sleeve reads Original 1990, Remaster 2015. The album was recorded in a barn on Steve Harris's property in Essex using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, and produced, engineered and mixed by Martin Birch.
It is the first Iron Maiden album with Janick Gers on guitar. Adrian Smith left during pre-production; his only contribution is as co-writer of Hooks In You. The band traded the synthesiser-heavy sound of the two albums before it for a stripped down, straightforward style, and this is their only studio album without a song longer than six minutes. Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter started as a Bruce Dickinson solo song for the A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child soundtrack. Harris had the band re-record it, and despite a BBC ban it became Iron Maiden's only UK number one single.
The sleeve carries Derek Riggs's original 1990 painting: Eddie bursting from his grave and grabbing a gravedigger, with the plaque on the tomb left blank. The 1998 reissue removed the gravedigger and added an inscription to the plaque.
