The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band anniversary edition LP front cover

The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Vinyl LP (Anniversary Edition)

Rs. 6,990.00

The anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, carrying the new stereo mix Giles Martin and Sam Okell made from the original four track session tapes. As the hype sticker puts it, as you have never heard it before, and for once that is not marketing: the 1967 stereo mix was an afterthought done in three days, while George Martin gave the mono version three weeks. This remix goes back to the tapes and rebuilds the stereo picture around the mono balance the band actually signed off.

What that means in practice is a centred, forward drum sound instead of drums pushed hard to one side, and a bass line you can follow. On Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and A Day In The Life the difference is not subtle.

Peter Blake and Jann Haworth's cover, the most reproduced sleeve in popular music, is here at full 12 inch scale, which is the only size at which you can actually pick faces out of the crowd. The rear sleeve carries the complete lyrics, the first time a pop LP had done that.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from an older Sgt. Pepper pressing?

This is the anniversary edition with the Giles Martin and Sam Okell stereo remix, made from the original four track masters rather than the hurried 1967 stereo mix.

Does Within You Without You have Indian instruments?

Yes. George Harrison wrote it for sitar, dilruba, tabla, swarmandal and tanpura, played by Harrison with musicians from the Asian Music Circle in London, with a Western string section arranged over the top.

Is the record sealed?

Yes, it arrives factory sealed and unplayed.

Sealed and brand new, shipped from our Mumbai stockroom with a stiffener and a fitted mailer so the sleeve corners survive the journey. If you are new to the format, our record player buying guide covers what you need to play it.
