Metallica's tenth studio album, and the one that ended an eight year wait after Death Magnetic. Twelve tracks spread across two 180 gram records, written entirely by Hetfield and Ulrich and produced with Greg Fidelman. It went to number one in more than a dozen countries on release in November 2016.
The pacing is deliberate: side one opens with the 3:09 title track, the shortest thing the band had released in years, and the set closes on Spit Out The Bone, seven minutes of the fastest playing on any Metallica record since the 1980s. Between them sit Moth Into Flame and Atlas, Rise!, both built on the twin guitar harmonies the band had largely left alone for two decades.
